Used to book flights on a whim, now I set price alerts like a hawk

Back in my early 20s, I would just pick a random Tuesday night, type in 'cheap flights to Europe' on my phone, and book whatever popped up first without checking anything else. Ended up paying $900 for a round trip to Paris once because I was impatient and didn't realize I could fly to Dublin for $300 and take a bus to Paris for cheap. That was 6 years ago and it stung so bad I still remember the exact dollar amount. Now I use Google Flights price alerts and literally wait weeks or months until a deal pops up before touching my wallet. Last month I snagged a round trip to Mexico City for $180 because I waited for the alert to hit instead of impulse buying. Anyone else have that one overpriced ticket that made them change their whole booking strategy?

That "stung so bad" part made me laugh a little. I mean yeah $900 to Paris is rough but you lived through it. I overpaid for a flight to Seattle once by like $200 and I barely remember what I had for breakfast yesterday let alone that. Setting price alerts is smart I guess but some people act like they got scammed by the mafia over a plane ticket. You saved a hundred bucks on Mexico City, cool. But you also spent weeks obsessing over flight prices for that. Feels like a wash to me.

Nah, sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger and go.
