It's crazy how much the booking site can change things. I once saw a hotel room for 200 euros on one app but the same room was 140 on the hotel's own website. Always check directly.

but also the whole loyalty points game is a mess across platforms. i book through hotels.com a lot and their "free night" thing sounds good but the math never works out the way you think. you end up overpaying on like nine stays just to get one free room that's only worth half what you spent. the hotel direct deals usually have way better perks anyway like free breakfast or late checkout without needing to jump through hoops.

Yeah, and sometimes those third-party sites hide the resort fees until the very end. The hotel's own site usually shows the full price up front, which saves a nasty surprise at checkout. That hidden cost can totally wipe out the initial "discount" you thought you found.
