TIL the hard way about airport lounge day passes during a 9 hour layover
Last month I had a 9 hour layover in Denver and had to pick between a $35 lounge day pass or camping out near my gate with a $14 footlong. I went with the lounge because I figured free food and wifi would pay for itself. Turns out that pass only gets you 3 hours, then you're back out in the terminal unless you pay again. I ended up spending $70 total and still ate a sandwich from the food court because the lounge snacks ran out by 2pm. Next time I'll just grab a cheap day room at the hotel attached to the airport, it was $89 for a block of hours but that includes real sleep. Has anyone else gotten burned by the fine print on those passes?

Lounge passes are just another version of the "bait and switch" pricing that's everywhere now. Airlines put the cheap price up front, then hit you with time limits and fine print that nobody reads until they're stuck. Same thing happens with rental cars, hotel resort fees, even concert tickets. It's like every company figured out that showing the real price scares people off, so they just tack it on later and hope you don't complain.
