That whole 'fly out of a bigger city to save money' thing backfired on me in Denver

I kept seeing people say to skip the local airport and drive to Denver International for better deals on flights to Europe. So I booked a round trip from Denver to London for $480 and thought I was smart. What nobody mentioned was the parking cost me $120 for two weeks and the gas to get there from Fort Collins ate up another $40. Then I got stuck in traffic on I-25 for an extra hour on the way back. When I added it all up, flying direct from my local airport for $560 would have saved me time and stress. Has anyone else tried this and ended up paying more than they thought?

That Denver parking rate seems high, most lots near the airport are around $10 a day not $14.

and actually man I think you might be mixing up the economy lots with the official ParkDIA ones. The off-site lots like The Parking Spot or Fine Airport Parking are usually around $10-$12 a day if you book ahead online, but if you just show up and park at the official garage it's definitely closer to $14 now. I park there like twice a month for work trips and the rates have crept up a bit since last year. Plus if you're parking in the covered garage instead of the open lot that price difference hits you right away.
