That $14 'hidden gem' hostel in Prague was a bed bug nightmare
Honestly, I booked this place called Hostel U Krále because the reviews were all from 2019 and the price was insane, like $14 a night near the old town square. Got there at 11pm after a bus from Vienna, and the guy at the front desk handed me a key with no sheets, just a bare mattress. I woke up at 4am with bites on my arms and saw little bugs crawling in the seam of the pillow. I grabbed my bag, went downstairs, and demanded a refund on my remaining 3 nights. The manager basically laughed and said 'good luck finding anything else for that price.' I ended up booking a last minute dorm at a proper hostel for $38 a night, but I spent the whole next day washing every piece of clothing in hot water at a laundromat. Has anyone else ever trusted a too-good price and paid for it later with something worse than a cramped room?
