Spent $55 on a hostel bed in Lisbon and got the worst sleep of my life, was it just bad luck?
Booked a 4 night stay at a place near the Alfama district for about $55 a night because every hotel I looked at was over $150. The reviews mentioned noise but I figured earplugs would fix it, except the room was right above a bar that blasted music until 3am every single night. I barely slept for 4 days and ended up spending $40 on coffee and taxis just to function, which basically erased my savings. Next time I'm thinking of paying a bit more for a private room or checking if the hostel has quiet hours. Has anyone found a good way to vet hostel noise before booking, or is it just a gamble?
