Question about using a credit card for travel points versus just paying cash
Last month, I was booking a flight to Austin and had a real debate with myself. I have a travel card that gives 2x points on all purchases, but the airline's site offered a $50 discount for paying with a debit card directly. So it was either get the points for a future free flight, or save the real money right now. I ended up taking the cash discount, but my friend said I was crazy and should always chase the points. What's your take? Do you go for the immediate savings or play the long points game?

Your friend called you crazy over a $50 discount? That's the real crime here. Points are nice, but cash in hand is always real.

Cash in hand" is fine, but those points can turn into a free flight later. That's way more than fifty bucks to me.
