My dad told me hostels are for young people and I almost believed him

I mean he said it like a fact, but then I met a 62 year old at a hostel in Portland last month who was on a solo road trip. She had a whole system for packing light and saved $400 on lodging in a week. Has anyone else had older relatives just dismiss entire budget travel methods without ever trying them?

Old people are just scared of bunk beds like it's some kind of death trap. That lady probably had a better packing system than most people half her age.

I see it a bit different, bunk beds are genuinely dangerous for older folks with brittle bones, not just a fear thing.
