My backpack broke mid-trip in Prague and I learned a tough lesson
I was in Prague last summer and my main backpack strap snapped right at the train station. I had packed way too heavy trying to save on checked bag fees, around 25 pounds in a cheap bag. I spent 45 minutes frantically looking for a repair shop near the main square. A local shop owner sewed it up for 10 euros and told me to get a bag with reinforced stitching. Now I always test my luggage weight before I leave and never go for the absolute cheapest option. Anyone else had a bag fail at the worst possible time?

Has this ever happened to anyone else where the thing that breaks isn't even the most expensive part of your trip, just the most inconvenient? I had a similar thing happen in Tokyo, my water bottle leaked all over my bag and ruined my phone charger (the cheap one, of course). The real kicker was I spent like 30 minutes in a convenience store trying to find a replacement, only to realize I could've just bought a new bottle for a few bucks and been fine. But hey, now I check my bottle caps are tight before I jam them in my bag, you know? It's funny how those small failures teach you more than any guidebook ever could.

The water bottle thing hits close to home because my cheap travel umbrella broke the first time I used it in a random downpour. Spent like forty five minutes ducking into shops trying to find one that wasn't a total piece of junk, only to have the second one snap in a gust of wind two blocks later. Now I just carry a solid one from the hardware store, weighs a ton but it won't quit on me. Those little frustrations are what really stick with you and make you change your whole packing routine.
