Hostel kitchen hack saved me $50 a week in Lisbon

I stayed at Home Lisbon Hostel for 10 days and kept blowing my food budget on takeout near the tram stops. Finally I noticed the hostel had a shared pantry with free rice, pasta, and spices that most people ignored. I started cooking big batches every other night, like a giant pan of vegetable stir fry for about 4 euros. That cut my daily eating cost from 15 euros down to 5. Anyone else use hostel pantries or free breakfast leftovers to stretch a trip?

Honestly it’s wild how we just ignore free stuff that’s already there. Same thing happens at work with the shared snack drawer, people buy lunch every day when there’s trail mix and granola bars right there. We’re all trained to think food costs money even when it literally doesn’t.
