Found a $5 hostel in Chiang Mai that actually had clean sheets

I was booking a last minute trip to Chiang Mai and saw a hostel rated 4.3 for only $5 a night, figured it had to be a scam. Turned out it was a newer spot trying to get more reviews, the place was spotless and they even included free toast and jam for breakfast. Anyone else stumbled across a deal that seemed too good to be true but worked out great?

That $5 hostel probably cut corners somewhere you didn't notice yet, like skipping any kind of security or putting you in a room with 20 people who snore. Free toast doesn't make up for getting bedbugs or your stuff stolen.

Found a similar deal in Ho Chi Minh once, $6 a night and they gave you a free towel. The catch was you had to sit through a 15 minute sales pitch for their elephant trek tours every morning. @jordanl82 has a point though, sometimes those ultra cheap spots just trade one problem for another.
