Don't trust the $39 all-you-can-fly pass, learned that in Chicago last March

A guy on a travel forum swore the 3-day pass was a steal, but I spent 5 hours waiting at O'Hare for a standby seat that never opened. Has anyone else gotten stuck paying full price for a hotel because the "deal" pass didn't cover the nights you actually need?
