Am I the only one who thinks airport snack math is a scam, or was this guy in Austin onto something?
Last month I was stuck at the Austin airport for a 4 hour layover and watched a guy pull out a whole loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, and a plastic knife from his carry on. He sat there making sandwiches on a napkin while everyone else paid $14 for a sad turkey wrap, and when I laughed he just said "that wrap is two hours of my parking money back home." I always packed snacks before, but I used to grab the $6 protein bars at the gate because it felt easier, and honestly I figured the savings were too small to matter. He did the math out loud for me right there: three airport meals on his trip came to $47, and his grocery run for the same stuff was $11, which is basically a free tank of gas. Now half of me thinks he is a genius and the other half thinks hauling bread and peanut butter through security is one jar leak away from a disaster in your bag. So where do you all land, do you pack real food or just eat the overpriced stuff and call it a travel tax?
