Wasted $40 on a bulk bag of lentils that I can't even cook right

I grabbed a 5 pound bag of lentils at Costco last month thinking I'd save big on meal prep. Three weeks later and I've only used maybe a cup because every batch turns into mushy slop. I've tried soaking them less, cooking them on low, even following a YouTube tutorial from a lady in Ohio. The texture is like eating baby food mixed with gravel and it's making me hate lentils. Anyone else struggle with these cheap bulk bags or am I just missing a simple trick?

Oh come on, "making me hate lentils" like they personally offended you. It's a $40 bag of dried beans. Put them in a pot with some broth and an onion and walk away for 30 minutes. If they're mushy, you cooked them too long. If they're hard, you didn't cook them long enough. This isn't rocket science. The Ohio lady probably has a gas stove and your apartment has electric, that's going to change things. Stop trying to follow a recipe like it's a sacred text and just taste them as they cook. You'll figure it out by the third batch. Or just throw the bag away and accept the $40 loss like a normal person who made a bad buy.

Wait she was from Ohio in that tutorial? I've watched the same one and somehow still can't make lentils right.
