The rice cooker I always skipped turned out to be the budget hero
For like 10 years I cooked rice in a pot on the stove, thinking rice cookers were just for fancy people with counter space. I had this habit of burning the bottom layer every single time, and I'd scrape it off and pretend it was fine. Last month my sister left her cheap 20 dollar rice cooker at my place after a family dinner, and I figured I'd give it one shot. That thing made perfect rice in 20 minutes with zero babysitting, and I realized I'd been wasting so much gas and rice on my stubborn pot method. Now I use that same cooker for oatmeal and even steaming veggies, which saves me from buying those overpriced steam packs at the store. Has anyone else had a cheap kitchen gadget they refused to try for ages, and then it completely changed their meal budget?

Used to think they were gimmicks. That $20 one proved me wrong.
