The debate over soaking beans overnight vs quick soak method is one I keep going back and forth on
I spent about 5 hours total testing both ways with a bag of pinto beans from Aldi last weekend and the overnight ones cooked faster but the quick soak ones had way fewer split skins, which side do you all lean on for budget meals?

Well, I'll be honest here, I never thought I'd see somebody spend five hours comparing bean methods, but I respect the dedication. What I haven't seen anyone bring up is the water quality. I live in an area with pretty hard water and I noticed my quick soak beans came out firmer and less likely to split because the minerals in the water help keep the skins intact. The overnight beans soaked in that same hard water and absorbed more of it, which made them cook faster but also made the skins more tender and prone to breaking. So if you're using tap water, the method that works best for you might depend entirely on what's coming out of your faucet. It's a small detail but it really changed the results for me when I tested it.

Five hours testing beans from ALDI?

Five hours is totally fair game when you're committed to finding a decent affordable option. Ngl, I've spent entire afternoons comparing store brand items to name brand stuff, and beans are no joke - texture and seasoning can make or break a whole meal. Tbh, that kind of dedication is what separates the casual shoppers from the real ones. Hope you found a keeper in that batch.
