The Asian market near me changed how I think about meals

I used to think budget meals meant bland canned stuff or cheap fast food. Then I walked into H Mart over on Broadway last month just to look around. They had bags of fresh basil for $1.50 and huge packs of tofu for under $3. I grabbed a bag of kimchi for $4 and made fried rice with an egg for three days straight. Has anyone else gotten better value by switching to an ethnic grocery store?

you also gotta check the sell by dates closer at those stores since their turnover is different.

Man I still grab the front ones like I'm living on the edge. My fridge is basically a retirement home for expired dairy at this point.

Grab the ones from the back of the shelf, not the front. lucas_perez is right, those discount stores move stuff slower so the milk might have a closer date. I always give the bread a good squeeze too. Found a loaf that felt like a rock once because it was sitting there for days.
