The $28 jar of 'organic' tomato sauce taught me a hard lesson

I bought this fancy organic tomato sauce at Whole Foods last month because everyone in the cooking groups kept raving about how fresh it tastes compared to the cheap stuff. Paid $28 for a big jar, which is insane for tomato sauce I know. Got it home, opened it up, and it tasted exactly like the $2 store brand from Aldi. I was so mad I made my family taste it blindfolded to see if I was crazy, and nobody noticed a difference. So I wasted $26 on basically a pretty label and some marketing hype. Has anyone else fallen for a pricey ingredient that turned out to be a total ripoff?

Bought a $50 bottle of olive oil once. Tasted like grass clippings.

Maybe it was just a bad batch or not stored right. I've heard that light and heat can turn expensive olive oil into something that tastes like a lawn mower bag pretty quick. Could be worth checking if the shop kept it near a window or something.
