Serious question, does anyone else's lentil soup turn out weirdly sweet sometimes?

I made a big pot of red lentil soup last night with just onion, carrot, and a can of tomatoes, but it came out tasting weirdly sweet, like dessert. I checked the tomato can and it didn't have added sugar. What could cause that, and how do I fix it for next time?

Honestly, is it really a problem if your soup is a little sweet? Carrots and onions are basically sugar once they cook down, and tomatoes have natural sugars too. It sounds like you just made a very pure, simple soup. Maybe your taste buds were off that night. I'd just eat it and add some black pepper.

Hold on now, it's not the end of the world if soup is a little sweet, you can just fix it with a pinch of salt or a dash of vinegar. People get way too worked up over small stuff like this when there's an easy fix.

Yeah carrots and onions can caramelize and get super sweet lol. I add a splash of vinegar at the end to balance it out.
