Saw ground beef at my local Aldi marked $4.89 a pound and did a double take at the price tag
Stopped by the Aldi on Carmichael Road here in Montgomery on Sunday to grab stuff for taco night and noticed the 80/20 ground beef was up to $4.89 a pound, which is almost a buck more than what I paid a few weeks back. I stood there doing the math on my phone and realized my usual two pound pack was now costing me almost ten bucks before I even got to the shells and cheese. The weird part is the chicken thighs right next to it were still sitting at $1.99 a pound, so I swapped my whole meal plan on the spot. Has anyone else seen beef climbing like this at their stores, and what are you swapping in to keep dinner cheap?
Beef's been weird like that for a while now. I keep a little price book in my head for the stuff I buy every week, and ground beef has jumped at least three times since spring while pork chops and whole chickens barely moved. It's not just meat either, my coffee went up a buck and the store brand butter is creeping too. The chicken thigh swap is the right move, that price gap tells you everything about what's actually in short supply. I've been doing more beans and rice on taco night myself, half a pound of beef stretched with a can of black beans and nobody at the table complains.
