Rice cookers are a waste of counter space for budget meals

I used to think a rice cooker was essential for cheap dinners, but after my $20 one died last month, I just started boiling rice in a pot. Turns out it's faster, uses less electricity, and tastes the same. Anyone else ditch their rice cooker for the old-school method?

Oh man, my friend @cameronb52's rice cooker burned their rice so bad once they had to throw the whole thing out.

Rice cookers aren't worth the trouble once you learn to boil rice right. Rinse it first, use a 2:1 water ratio, and let it steam off the heat for 10 minutes. Saves counter space and one more appliance to buy or replace.

Fair point @paige_ellis59, boiling rice the old fashioned way definitely works once you get the hang of it. But I gotta push back a little - a decent rice cooker is pretty cheap and mine makes perfect rice every time without me having to watch the pot or worry about burning it. The timer function is nice too, I can set it in the morning and come home to hot rice ready to go. For me, that counter space is worth it for the convenience.
