My slow cooker lid shattered on the counter last Tuesday
I was just washing the ceramic insert after making a lentil soup and the glass lid literally broke in half when I set it down. Cost me $18 to replace it at the local hardware store because I couldn't find just the lid online. Now I'm paranoid and wondering if I should switch to a metal Dutch oven instead. Has anyone else had a slow cooker lid just give out like that?

A broken lid is annoying but eighteen bucks is barely a dent in anyone's grocery budget for the week. Slow cookers are cheap appliances that work fine until they don't, same as any other kitchen gadget. Why would one random failure make you swap to a completely different cooking method?
