My mother in law's one comment about rice changed my dinner costs
She watched me dump a whole $4 bag of minute rice into the pot last Thanksgiving and said 'you know that's the expensive way to eat, right?' I laughed it off but then I did the math. A 20 pound bag of regular long grain at the local market runs about $14 and lasts me 3 months easy, versus 2 bags of instant a week. That's like $24 saved a month just on rice, plus it tastes way better in my stir fry. Now I soak it for 20 minutes before cooking and it's done almost as fast. Anyone else have a family member call out their lazy grocery habit like that?
