Learned to cook dry beans after my $47 grocery run in Boise
My electric bill jumped $30 last month so I tried the 3 hour soak plus 90 minute simmer method from the back of the WinCo bulk bin and now a $2 bag of pinto beans covers 6 dinners, but does anyone have a trick for keeping them from splitting when I freeze the leftovers?
Oh man, undercook them just a bit before freezing. Beans that are fully soft going in turn to mush when they thaw and reheat. Pull them off the heat while they still have a little bite, then cool them fast in a shallow pan before they hit the freezer.
