Is it worth spending extra on organic veggies or not?

My neighbor Deb swears by organic everything, spent $80 on a single grocery run and told me it's the only way, while I just grabbed the regular stuff for half the price and fed my family for a week. Where do you draw the line between healthy eating and not blowing your budget.

Oh gosh, that $80 for one bag of groceries sounds about right for the fancy organic stuff... I mean, I get wanting to be healthy but that's just not realistic for most families. You're right that washing regular veggies really well gets rid of most of the pesticide residue anyway, and if you're not eating the skin, like with bananas or avocados or onions, it barely matters at all. For things where you do eat the skin like berries or lettuce, I usually just buy whatever's on sale and give them a good rinse with some vinegar water... saves a ton of money and we've never had a problem.

The vinegar water trick works but doesn't actually remove most pesticides, just bacteria.
