Heard a guy in line at Aldi say rice and beans is a cop-out dinner, and I about dropped my cart
Some guy behind me at the Aldi on 5th was telling his buddy that beans and rice is what you eat when you gave up on cooking. I almost said something. My grocery bill runs about $47 a week for two people and beans and rice is a big reason why. A 5 pound bag of pinto beans is $4 and change and that covers a month of dinners for us. Throw in an onion, some cumin, and a can of tomatoes and you have a meal that beats a $12 takeout bowl any night. The trick is you have to actually season it and cook the beans right, not just dump a can in a pot. Anyone else get side eye for serving beans as a main dish?
