Bought a bulk bag of dried beans and lost $12 when they sat in my pantry for 8 months

I thought I was being SO smart buying a 5-pound bag of dried pinto beans from the bulk bin at WinCo for $12. Turns out I never actually cooked them because soaking beans takes planning and I always forgot. Half the bag got weevils and I had to toss the whole thing. Anyone else fall for the bulk bean trap or am I just lazy?

Read somewhere you can just freeze beans for a day to kill weevil eggs before storing them. Still doesn't solve the planning problem though.

The bulk bean trap is real. I bought a 3 pound bag of chickpeas once and they sat there for a year until I finally tossed them. Soaking is the worst chore because you have to remember hours ahead of time. Weevils are the ultimate insult to injury too.
