Warning: Do not fall for the 'designer label' kitchen knife scam at the Asheville flea market

I was in Asheville last weekend and saw a guy selling 'hand forged carbon steel' knives for $80 each, claiming they were $300 in stores. I asked if I could test one on a tomato and the blade flexed so much it snapped in half. Has anyone else spotted these fake knife peddlers at local markets?

Ha, that's brutal. Must be my luck with knives, I'd have probably been the one to buy it and then blame my cutting board. At least you got a good story out of it for eighty bucks.

Blame my cutting board" is actually pretty funny, I might start using that. But honestly, eighty bucks for that story is a steal compared to what I've wasted on duds I never even used. At least with that knife you get a good laugh and a reminder to check things twice before buying. What's the most you've ever paid for something that ended up being a total joke?
