That $30 set of fabric scissors from Target was a complete waste - didn't even make it through 3 fleece blankets before going dull

I thought I was being smart avoiding the cheap craft store brands but after one evening of cutting up old t-shirts for rags the edge was already gone and now I'm looking at $60 for a real pair from a sewing shop - anyone else have better luck with a specific mid-range brand?

Bought a pair of mid-range Ginghers from Joann's for like $40 and they've been okay so far, cut through some denim and a stack of cotton but honestly I think the real trick is just getting them sharpened every once in a while. My grandma used to cut everything with those cheapo Fiskars from the grocery store and they lasted her years because she had this little gadget she'd run them through after every project. I keep meaning to find one of those but I always forget until I'm already fighting with dull blades.

Three fleece blankets is a lot of cutting, especially with cheap store shears that aren't meant for heavy use. Those $30 Target sets are fine for paper and maybe some light fabric, but fleece is tough stuff, it eats blades. Honestly, even good scissors need a break now and then. You're better off buying a basic dressmaker's shear from a sewing supply place for forty bucks and accepting you'll need to sharpen it once a year, instead of acting like three blankets is nothing and burning through cheap pairs.
