Showerthought: Dollar store scissors vs a $30 pair from Target - I was wrong for years
Okay so I've been using those cheap orange handled scissors from the dollar store for like, forever. You know the ones that barely cut through a piece of paper without getting stuck? I thought all scissors were basically the same, just some had fancier handles. Then my mom gave me a pair of Fiskars from Target that were like $28 I think, and I was mad at how much easier they cut. The difference isn't just sharpness. The dollar store ones pinch your fingers after 3 cuts and the blades wobble. The Target ones slice through cardboard like butter and my hand doesn't cramp up after trimming a bunch of herbs. It's honestly embarrassing how long it took me to upgrade, but now I'm wondering if there's other basic tools where paying a little more actually saves you money in the long run. Has anyone else found a cheap version of something that just wasn't worth it?

Wait, you actually used dollar store scissors on cardboard without your hand cramping up immediately?

Yeah @jessicajohnson, it's like we've all just accepted that bad tools are the default now.
