Rant: That $60 'energy saving' power strip I bought was a total scam

It claimed to cut standby power by 40%, but my kill-a-watt meter showed it saved me exactly 12 cents over 3 months, and I paid $60 for the strip - has anyone else gotten burned by one of those smart power strip deals?

Yeah, "overpriced junk" is exactly right. I bought one of those fancy "smart" power strips with all the claims about saving big money, and my electric bill didn't change at all. I tracked it for months just like you, and I think I saved like maybe a dollar total. It's frustrating because these companies make it sound like a sure thing, but really you're just paying for the fancy plastic and a tiny relay inside. Your 12 cents over three months is honestly hilarious and sad at the same time, sorry you got burned too.

Falls right in line with most green gadgets being overpriced junk.
