My neighbor laughed at me for using paper towels to clean windows, so I switched to newspaper and I am never going back.

He said the lint was making his eye twitch and after 3 days of trying his method, my windows are actually streak-free for the first time ever, has anyone else had an old-timer call them out on the dumbest stuff?

My dad told me the same thing about 10 years ago when I was complaining about streaks on my patio doors. I used a microfiber cloth and some store-bought cleaner, and he handed me a crumpled sports section and a spray bottle with vinegar water. I thought he was messing with me, but those doors have never looked better. The ink acts like a mild abrasive and the paper doesn't leave fibers behind. Now I just grab the free weekly papers from the coffee shop and keep a stack under my sink. The only trick is you have to replace the paper often, like every few swipes, or it just smears the dirt back on.

Wow, I actually read somewhere that newspaper ink has silica in it which gives it that slight scrubbing power. That's probably why it works better than just a wet rag for glass. Your dad knew what he was talking about even if it seemed odd at the time.
