Last Tuesday I found $60 in an old coat pocket and my car passed smog same day

I was digging through my winter jacket looking for a lighter and pulled out three twenties I forgot I stashed there. Then went straight to the smog check place and it passed on the first try which never happens. Has anyone else had a perfect day where dumb luck actually saves you money?

Found $40 in a pair of jeans I hadn't worn in months last spring, but my car failed smog the same afternoon. Had to drop $300 on a new catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. You got lucky with both happening on the same day, but that smog thing is a bigger deal. Most cars from the last 15 years will pass if the check engine light isn't on and you drove it for 20 minutes before showing up. The real win was the free sixty bucks.

Oh, I actually just read an article about this the other day. It said that on average, people find around $73 a year just in random pants pockets and old jackets, which is wild. But like you said, that little windfall doesn't mean much when a smog test or a repair bill wipes it all out and then some. Honestly, finding that cash is just the universe's way of softening the blow before it drops the real cost on you.
