Just realized my cheap coffee grinder was ruining my $9 beans, and the fix cost me nothing
I used to buy the $9 bag of whole beans from the place on 5th and grind them at the store, figuring fresh is fresh no matter what. Then a guy at the counter told me the store grinder gets cleaned maybe once a month and the blades are dull, so I was basically getting old grounds mixed with mine. He said if I'm spending that much on beans, grind at home even if it's a cheap blade grinder, and pulse it in short bursts instead of holding the button down. I tried it and the first cup tasted different, way less bitter, and I stopped dumping half and half in just to get it down. The real kicker is I was about to drop $150 on a fancy burr grinder when the free advice fixed most of it. Now I do 5 quick pulses, shake the thing, and 3 more pulses, and it's close enough for me. Anyone else get set straight by a random tip like that, or am I the last person to know about the store grinder thing?
