Hot take: my $4 rice cooker from a garage sale beats the $180 one my cousin swears by
My cousin keeps telling me I need to upgrade my kitchen stuff, and last Saturday she saw my rice cooker, a $4 garage sale find from a house on Elm Street, and actually laughed at it. She has a $180 one with a fuzzy logic chip and like 12 settings, and she says mine is why her rice always turns out better at her place. But here is the thing, I have used hers and mine on the same bag of jasmine rice, and mine cooks it just as fluffy every single time. The cheap one only has a cook switch and a warm switch, which means I actually have to pay attention and unplug it, and that tiny bit of effort is the whole reason it works. She leaves hers on warm for like 3 hours and then wonders why the bottom turns into a crust. I am not saying fancy tools are bad, but a lot of people buy them to skip the part where they learn to cook. Anyone else notice that the cheap version sometimes forces you to be better at the actual skill?
