Had to pick between a $40 pizza stone and a $5 thrift store quarry tile

Wanted to make crispy crust at home. Almost bought a new stone at Target. Then I found a 12x12 quarry tile at the Habitat Restore for 5 bucks. Works exactly the same, no difference in how my bread turns out. Anyone else skip the fancy gear and use random stuff?

Right! Quarry tile is the real deal.

Used to think quarry tile was just industrial floor stuff and not worth the hassle. But after helping my cousin lay some in his mudroom last fall, I totally get it now. The way it handles water and dirt without looking beat up is wild. Plus it's got this old school look that modern tile just can't pull off. Definitely changed my mind about what works for high traffic spots.
