Update: I switched from string line to laser level on long walls and I was wrong about lasers
I resisted buying a laser level for 5 years, mostly since an old boss called them a crutch for guys who couldn't read a string. Last month I had a 60 foot garden wall in Bakersfield with a slight curve and my string line kept sagging in the heat, about an eighth of an inch over the run. My helper finally pulled out his $80 Bosch and set it up on a tripod while I grumbled. We ran the whole first course off that laser and it came out dead on, no sag, no fighting the wind. I still set a string for short runs and corners, the laser can't check your face or plumb for you. But for long straight stuff in the sun I'm not going back. Anyone else running both, or do you just trust one over the other?
