The old brick plant in town used to sell a gritty, cheap mix that was a pain to work with.

About five years ago they switched to a new clay source and a better screening process. The sand is cleaner now, the bricks are more uniform, and you get way less waste on a pallet. I used to lose maybe 15 bricks per thousand to weird shapes or chips, now it's maybe three. Anyone else notice a big jump in quality from their local supplier recently?

Yeah, that "way less waste" part is the real win. I used to have to sort through every pallet and pull out the ones with bad edges or weird lumps. Now I can just grab and go. It saves a stupid amount of time on site, and you're not stuck trying to hide a bunch of ugly bricks in the back of a wall.

But sorting through a pallet only takes like ten minutes, right? Seems like a small thing to get worked up over.

Tell me about it, jamie_taylor. My sorting skills are so bad I'd probably try to hide the good bricks.
