The day a 70-year-old mason pointed at my trowel grip and laughed
I was building a little retaining wall for a guy in Topeka last summer, and this retired bricklayer walks over, watches me for a minute, and says 'son, you're holding that trowel like a butter knife.' Turns out I had my thumb on top the whole 3 years I'd been doing this, which was making my wrist sore and my joints sloppy. Any of you guys ever realize you were gripping your trowel wrong and had to relearn?

Thumb on top is how I've always held mine and my joints are just FINE after 40 years.

Guess it depends if you want to be able to move your hand when you're 70.
