The brick wall at my grandma's church in Scranton has a hidden message from 1948
I was doing some repair work on a small church in Scranton last month and pulled off a loose brick near the back corner to find a note tucked inside the mortar joint. Turns out the original mason had left a folded piece of paper back in 1948 with the name "Frank" and the words "good luck to whoever finds this." My grandma has been going to that church for 40 years and never knew it was there. I ended up putting the note back and adding a little piece of my own before I sealed it up. Made me think about all the hidden stuff other masons have tucked into walls over the years. Has anyone here ever found something weird inside a wall or left a note for the next guy?

I read once that masons used to leave all kinds of stuff in cornerstones, like coins and old newspapers and even bottles of whiskey sometimes. There was a story from somewhere in Pennsylvania about a guy who found a whole time capsule from the 1890s with a newspaper still readable inside. Putting the note back was a good move if you ask me, it felt like it belonged there. Some folks might say leave it be and others might want to keep it, so your call really. I've never found anything in a wall myself but now I want to go poke around my uncle's old garage.
