Spent 3 hours chasing a level line on a retaining wall last Tuesday

Kept adjusting and re-checking my string line, then realized I had a knot in my mason's line that was throwing everything off by a quarter inch. Has anyone else had a simple mistake eat up way more time than the actual work?

Had to laugh at that because @terrywilson is right, you really do want to kick your own bucket. Only thing I'd add is a chalk line can help avoid that knot problem in the first place. Just make sure you don't snap it crooked like I did last week.

Oh man, that is brutal (and honestly something I'd totally do myself). There's nothing worse than chasing a phantom problem for hours only to find out it was something stupid simple like a knot or a kink. I've spent way too long leveling a line because my dumb hand was holding the dumb string at a dumb angle. Makes you want to kick your own bucket, you know?
