Rant: a bad corner on a garden wall cost me 3 extra hours last Saturday
I laid a small garden wall for a guy in Ferndale last Saturday and the corner just would not come out square. I kept rechecking my line and my level and everything looked right, but the courses kept drifting about a quarter inch by the time I got to the fourth row. Turned out my corner block was a little out of true and I never thought to check it, so I tore down 4 courses and started over. Back when I started, the old guys would eyeball a corner and be done in 20 minutes, and I spent most of a morning on it. How do you all check your corner blocks before you start, or do you just chase it as you go?
