Pro tip: the foreman on the Des Moines job told me my head joints were "all over the map," so I switched to a story pole
I got pulled off a wall last month because the guy running the job walked up and just pointed at my head joints and said they were wandering a good 3/8 inch over eight courses. I was laying to a line and eyeballing it like I always have, which clearly wasn't cutting it. He handed me a scrap of 1x2 and told me to mark my coursing on it and check every third course instead of trusting my eye. Two days later the same guy came back and didn't say a word, just nodded, which from him is basically a gold star. Any of you use a story pole on long runs or do you just trust the line and your gut?
