Old timer at a job in Tulsa told me to stop wetting my brick tongs, and I still think about it
Was laying a running bond on a porch job in Tulsa back in March and this guy named Dale, been laying 40 years, watched me dip my tongs in the water bucket before every grab. He said "son, wet steel just rusts and slips, dry them off and let the brick bite." Tried it the rest of that wall and my grip was way better, no slipping. Anyone else hear this one or is Dale just an old crank?
dry them off and let the brick bite" is real. I used to keep my tongs wet thinking it helped with dust, but once I tried dry ones the grip was night and day. Dale knows what he's talking about.
