Old foreman told me to stop wetting my bricks. He was dead wrong.

I'm a younger guy. Started 2 years back. Guy named Frank, been laying brick since the 80s. He said I was wasting time with the hose. Told me to just lay them dry. Bond was crap after a week. Bricks sucked the water right out of the mortar. Three sections had to be ripped out. Cost me a full Saturday and extra mortar. Learned my lesson. Who else got bad advice from an old timer?

Yeah "bricks sucked the water right out" is real. That mortar needs the moisture to cure right. You can't rush good work. Frank was set in his ways but water makes the bond stick.

Man wouldn't Frank have known that already though? Seems like that's just basic physics with dry materials and water. Was he just stubborn or what?
