I finally got my first tuck pointing job done without any callbacks

I've been bricking for about 2 years now and tuck pointing always scared me, but last week I finished a whole wall at a house on Oak Street and the owner even complimented the matching color. Has anyone else struggled with getting the mortar color just right or is it just me lol?

Don't trust the bag color alone" - that's facts. Learned that one the hard way with a batch that came out looking like salmon.

Man I feel you on the color matching struggle. I mix a small batch first and let it dry on a scrap board before I even touch the wall because wet mortar looks totally different than dry. For Oak Street try adding a little iron oxide if the mortar is coming out too light, that's what I do when I need to match old reddish brown joints. Also don't trust the bag color alone, even the same brand can vary between batches.
