Foreman said to wet the brick before laying in July, I figured he was messing with the new guy
Back in 2019 I was on a job in Tucson and the foreman kept telling me to dunk every brick in a bucket before setting it. I thought he was just hazing me since it was 108 degrees and the water felt good but seemed pointless. About two weeks in, I watched a guy on another crew lay dry brick on the same mix and half his wall face started flaking off within a month. Turns out the dry brick sucks the water right out of the mortar before it can cure, and I've been wetting my brick ever since, even on small jobs. Anyone else get taught this the hard way or was I just the last guy to know?
