Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to dial in a new grinder
I picked up a hand grinder back in March and figured I would have my espresso dialed in within a week, but it took me 19 days and about 2 pounds of beans before I pulled a shot that did not taste sour or bitter. The adjustment ring moves in tiny steps and I kept overshooting, going back and forth between choking the machine and getting a gusher. Does anyone have a simple way to track grind settings when breaking in a new burr set, or do you just burn through beans until it clicks?
19 days and 2 pounds of beans sounds like a lot for a hand grinder, honestly. I get that new burrs need some time to settle in, but people act like this is some huge ordeal when it is really just coffee. Write your clicks down in a notes app, adjust one click at a time, and stop jumping all over the place when a shot tastes off. Two pounds is like 30 shots, that should be way more than enough to figure out a grind range unless something else is going on with your puck prep. Tbh the whole "burn through beans until it clicks" thing feels like people making a hobby sound harder than it is.
