Stopped using city water after one batch at a friend's place in Austin
I was over at a buddy's house in Austin last spring. He pulled a shot on his setup there. Tasted completely different than my stuff back home. Smoother. No weird aftertaste. Same beans. Same grinder. Same brew method. Only difference was the water. He uses a simple carbon filter pitcher. Next day I bought one for $25. My coffee has never tasted the same since. Anyone else notice a huge difference switching water sources?

Isn't it wild how we just accept the way things have always been without question until we accidentally find out there's a better way? This same thing happened to me with salt. Used the same cheap table salt for years, then tried a flaky sea salt on some tomatoes from a farmer's market. Huge difference in flavor, not just saltiness but actual taste. It makes you wonder what other little defaults in our daily routines we're missing out on. Like tap water or a basic spice rack, sometimes the boring standard option is just hiding a whole better experience.

oh come on @morgan.mary, it's just salt. i get that fancy salt tastes different but let's not act like your whole life was a lie because you used morton's for a decade. next you'll tell me i'm missing out on $12 artisanal pepper. i tried that maldon salt thing once and yeah it was nice on a steak but then i went back to regular salt for everything else because who has time to hand-crumble flakes over their eggs at 7am. if anything this just proves we have bigger problems to worry about than upgrading our pantry.
