So I switched from a blade grinder to a burr grinder and wow
I was using this cheap blade grinder I got at a thrift store for like 8 bucks for the past 2 years. Last week I finally grabbed a decent hand burr grinder off Amazon for around 40. The first brew was a total shock to me. My coffee went from bitter and inconsistent to actually tasting smooth and fruity. The grounds were way more even and it only took me about a minute to grind 20 grams. Has anyone else seen that big a jump just from swapping their grinder?

What nobody talks about is how blade grinders actually heat up the beans as they chop, kind of cooking off the delicate flavors before you even add water. The burr grinder is basically keeping the coffee cool enough to taste the actual fruit notes instead of the heat damage.

Still laughing at myself for spending years thinking burnt coffee was just 'how coffee tastes.' My grinder upgrade was a cheap electric burr, not even a nice one, and I honestly felt a little ripped off that I put up with that bitter sludge for so long. The first brew tasted like someone had actually washed the beans before roasting them. It was a real wake up call about how much of the flavor I was just grinding away into dust.
